Two separate questions about one degree
Most Blue Card applicants must show that their academic qualification is acceptable in Germany. Many begin with anabin, the database that provides information on foreign institutions and qualifications. The status of the university matters, but the assessment of the specific degree also needs to be clear.
If anabin does not provide the evidence the responsible authority requires for your institution and degree, you may need a ZAB Statement of Comparability. This statement places your foreign university qualification within the German education system. Check the need for it well before your planned job start date. Qualification evidence is a common point at which a carefully timed application can slow down.
Is your profession regulated?
Academic comparability and permission to practise are different issues. In many nonregulated jobs, the main question is how to prove the qualification. In regulated professions, including certain healthcare occupations, you may also need formal recognition or a professional licence. A job title that sounds similar in two countries does not guarantee that the same rules apply.
What if your degree is missing from anabin?
An absent result is not an automatic refusal. First check the formal name of the institution, country, qualification and degree category. Then consult the official guidance to see whether a ZAB assessment is required. Keep the search results, degree certificate and transcripts organised. Vocational qualifications can follow a different recognition procedure, so do not assume the academic process applies to them.
Finally, consider the qualification alongside the proposed role and salary. A comparable degree without qualifying employment is not enough for a Blue Card.
